Today was chock full of visitors and visiting alike! This morning we had a grant writing workshop/talk back with Alan Kopischke, Bret Bicoy and a grant writing specialist from Ministry Health. We talked about grant writing from the perspective of both the people asking for and receiving the money. It was great to hear about how enthusiastic organizations can be about supporting start-up projects like ours, as well as how much they want everyone to succeed.
As you can see in Kirsten's post, we also had a group go into the Sevastopol Schools and meet with classes to help put us on the radar of high school audiences. All of the students who went (which was Portia, Jessica, Phillip, Kirsten, and Madeline) said they had a great time and enjoyed sharing Jonah with the students, as well as playing some theatre games with them as well.
We also had meetings with Deb Loewen, the Artistic Director of Wildspace Dance Company in Milwaukee, Wi. Having worked with her during movement workshops throughout many theatre courses, it was very interesting to see her as a business woman. We went through the process of creating a budget for a start-up theatre company, which was exhausting for many of us. At the same time, it was incredible to think about all of the little things that go into budgeting for a theatre company (like utilities, rehearsal space and contracts) that many of us don't think about when putting on a show.
